Taam is a household food-planning application provided by Makor Labs. This policy explains what information Taam collects, how it is used and shared, how long it is kept, and the choices available to you. It applies to the Taam mobile application, web application, Alexa skill, AI assistant, and related services.
Information we collect
- Account and profile information: your name, email address, profile image when available, authentication provider, account identifier, language, household preferences, and connected-service settings.
- Household and shopping content: shopping lists and items, categories, recipes, ingredients, menus, household names, memberships, permissions, invitations, shopping-chat messages, shopping trips, store and aisle details, estimated and paid prices, receipt images, receipt-derived purchase history, and other content you create or share.
- AI and voice information: typed requests, audio sent while the microphone is active, transcripts, assistant responses, tool actions, recipe material, and the relevant Taam household context needed to fulfill a request.
- Photos, scans, and imports: profile pictures and other photos you upload or capture, barcode or QR values, product lookup results, recipe URLs, pasted recipe text, and imported recipe details.
- Safety and technical information: reports you submit, blocked-member settings, moderation results, account and app identifiers, notification permission choices and push-notification device tokens, IP address, device and browser details, and authentication, security, diagnostic, network, and service logs reasonably needed to operate, troubleshoot, and protect Taam.
- Optional API credentials: if you enter your own OpenAI API key, Taam stores it on your device and sends it to Taam's recipe-import service only when needed to complete a request using that key. Do not use a key you are not authorized to use.
Taam does not request access to your contacts, precise location, Gmail, Google Drive, calendars, or payment-card information. Device permissions such as camera, photo library, microphone, and notifications are requested only when you use or enable a feature that needs them. You can change device permissions in your operating-system settings, although the related feature may stop working.
Google and Apple sign-in
If you choose Continue with Google or Sign in with Apple, Taam receives the basic profile information you authorize, such as your name, email address, provider account identifier, and profile image when available. Taam uses this information to authenticate you, create or locate your Taam account, identify you to household members, and provide support. Taam does not receive your Google or Apple password.
Taam's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
How we use information
- Authenticate users, maintain accounts, and synchronize household data across devices.
- Provide shopping-list, recipe, menu, sharing, collaboration, realtime chat notifications, Alexa, scanning, importing, and voice-assistant features.
- Process the requests you make to Taam AI and carry out actions you approve or request.
- Classify shopping items, retrieve product information, and remember household category choices.
- Maintain security, prevent abuse, troubleshoot problems, and improve service reliability and usability.
- Communicate about support, privacy, account deletion, security, or important service changes.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we process information to provide the service you request, based on your consent, to pursue legitimate interests such as security and reliability, or to comply with law.
Household sharing
Taam is designed for collaboration. Household content is visible to people in that household according to the permissions selected by the household owner or administrator. Household members may view, add, edit, check off, or delete content when their permissions allow it. Do not add information you do not want authorized household members to see.
Service providers and other disclosures
We disclose information only as needed to operate Taam, at your direction, or as required by law. Providers may include Google Firebase and Google Cloud for authentication, databases, storage, and backend services; Vercel for web hosting and serverless services; OpenAI for AI responses, transcription, realtime voice, speech previews, receipt review, and optional shopping-chat safety screening; Amazon for Alexa account linking and voice requests; Apple and Google for sign-in; Open Food Facts for barcode product lookups; and a web proxy when needed to retrieve a recipe URL. A barcode or recipe URL may be sent to the applicable lookup service. These providers process information under their own terms and our service arrangements.
We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, enforce our terms, investigate abuse, or protect users, Taam, Makor Labs, or the public. If Taam or Makor Labs is involved in a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction subject to appropriate notice and protections.
We do not sell personal information or Google user data. We do not use personal information or Google user data for targeted advertising.
AI, voice, safety screening, and Alexa
When you use Taam AI, relevant text, audio, transcripts, recipe content, list content, and household context may be sent to the configured AI service so it can understand and fulfill your request. When realtime voice is active, microphone audio is transmitted for processing until you stop or close the session. When the administrator enables household-chat safety screening, message text or an attached image may be sent to OpenAI for automated moderation before the message is delivered. Alexa also processes your voice under Amazon's policies before passing the request to Taam. Assistant actions can change shared household data, so review consequential actions and assistant output. Do not submit sensitive information that is unnecessary for a kitchen or household task.
Data retention and deletion
We retain account and household information while your account is active and for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service. Security, diagnostic, and backup records may remain for a limited period where needed for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, legal compliance, or disaster recovery.
You can delete your account in Taam under Settings > Delete account, or request deletion through our account-deletion page. Deletion removes your login account and associated personal data from active systems. Content in a household shared with other people may need to remain as household content for those members, with your account association removed or limited where reasonably possible. Deletion begins promptly and is completed within 30 days, except for limited records we are legally permitted or required to retain and temporary backup copies that are isolated from ordinary use.
Your choices and rights
You can update your profile, household permissions, default list, connected-service choices, and language within Taam. You can revoke Google or Apple access in the applicable account settings, unlink Alexa in the Alexa app, remove an optional API key from Taam settings, and control camera or microphone permissions on your device.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, or restriction of personal information, or to object to certain processing. To make a request, contact us using the address below. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
Security and international processing
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards, including encrypted network connections where supported. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so protect your devices, credentials, linked accounts, and API keys. Taam and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate, which may have different data-protection laws than your country.
Children
Taam is not directed to children under 13, or the higher minimum age required in a user's country, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that age without appropriate parent or guardian authorization. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information improperly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Taam changes. We will post the current version here, update the date above, and provide additional notice or seek consent when required by law.
